KNEECAP – No Comment Ft. Sub Focus
KNEECAP team up with drum and bass producer Sub Focus for “No Comment”, a two-minute track built around a massive bass drop that hits back at British state harassment. The Belfast/Derry trio wrote it in response to the trumped-up terrorism charge brought against Mo Chara, which was thrown out in September on a technicality.
Sub Focus brings his drum and bass touch to the production while Mo Chara blends English and Irish across the verses. “I’m misbehaving in badness / Mo Chara’s wanted / The air bubble bandit,” he declares in the chorus, before addressing the legal case directly: “Have you ever been plastered on the news when you’ve got the heebie-jeebies? Far from ideal / Got death threats on my screen.”
Mo Chara was charged in May with a terror offense for allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag and shouting “up Hamas, up Hezbollah” at a November 2024 London gig. The charge was dismissed when a judge ruled it fell outside the statute of limitations, but the Crown Prosecution Service announced it would appeal. KNEECAP called it “political policing” driven by politicians and British media rather than the courts.
The single features Banksy’s “Royal Courts of Justice” mural on the sleeve, with the artist’s permission. The artwork shows a judge hitting an unarmed protester with his gavel and appeared outside London’s Royal Courts of Justice on September 8, days after nearly 900 people were arrested at a Palestine Action protest. Security staff covered it up soon after, then scrubbed it from the wall entirely. KNEECAP hailed it as hitting the “fucking nail on the head” and criticized its removal.
“No Comment” follows standalone singles “THE RECAP” featuring Mozey and “Sayōnara” with Paul Hartnoll of Orbital. The track is available as a limited edition 7-inch with “Get Your Brits Out” as the B-side, marking its first vinyl appearance. KNEECAP are currently on a sold-out UK headline tour, with Móglaí Bap running 10km before each show to raise funds for Palestine through the Beit Lahia Development Association in Gaza and Glór na Móna in Belfast.
